BACLAYON, Bohol – Twenty-two passengers, including the drver and conductor landed in hospitals after the vehicle they’re riding en route to this city smashed into a fully-loaded cargo truck along the national highway in coastal barangay Taguihon in this town yesterday morning. The vehicular accident took place at almost eight in the morning has prompted authorities here to direct passing vehicles into detour that caused traffic jam because of narrow municipal roads.
In a spot report, police station here led by police chief PSInsp Nida Paja Perocho identified the driver of the passenger public utility jeep (PUJ) as one Rodel Ones Bandita, of legal age and resident of professional driver’s license no. G03-06-003099 which expires on July 3, 2015 who drove the car with license plate number GWM 772.
The conductor of the said passenger vehicle was identified as one Mark Louie Jumawan. Narciso Gamayon Esclamado, 35, married and resident of Poblacion Candijay town was the driver of the cargo truck, Fuso with silver color and plate number GEV 516 and certificate of registration No. 49424837 dated June 9, 1998 and Official receipt No. 54014435. He is a holder of driver’s license no. G10-96-002985 valid until October 28, 2017, police said.
Initially, police said that the passengers were identified. They are Margie Manaytay, Joy Galleto Maluto, Bano Erna, Eddie Cirano, Mayla Coquilla, Joy Galleon, Joan Rano, Olab Mariano, Fortunata Dorato, Ritchie Quinal, Charlyn Curambao, Gaudencia Recalde, Lorlyn Ibnoy, Mantala Nina Suerte, Necita de Guzman, Christopher Curambao, Geo Gomez, Banais Galo, Jasmin Losada, Olaso Makinano, Ana Marie Banghal and Merlinda Banghal.
Minutes later, TARSIER 117 personnel and ambulance units rushed to the scene to rescue the victims who are said to be seriously injured as a result of the impact, a witness said.
Police said that a concerned citizen informed police station here of the said accident and immediately help was dispatched to rescue the victims. “All passengers were immediately rushed to hospitals by the ambulance for medical treatment,” the report said.
Based on the initial investigations and witnesses account, “driver of PUJ overtook another vehicle which caused head-on collision to other approaching vehicle and incurred damages of unestimated cost to both vehicles and injuries to driver and passengers,” police said.
Police chief Perocho said that her office is still following those passengers confined at the hospital as of presstime last night. (rvo)
