TAGBILARAN CITY – Incumbent Congressman Aris Aumentado of 2nd district to run under the Liberal Party or coalition is a trick, said a reliable source, who refused to be named. Besides, that is next to impossible, he said. The reaction came following the news report that the congressman, who is a stalwart of the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC), may likely bid for reelection under the LP banner.
The source said that Rep. Aumentado, who succeeds his father, the former governor and congressman Erico Boyles Aumentado, has been invited to LP meeting recently. He said that the congressman was offered by the LP led by LP presidential timber Mar Roxas to be a common bet in the second district.
Aris may welcome the offer but pointed out that he cannot campaign for LP candidates in the towns since he has his followers who are NPC partymates and candidates and this is conflict of party interest, the source said.
Besides, Aris camp still did not discount the possibility of a comeback of former Trinidad mayor and congressman Roberto “Ondoy” Cajes to gun for congressman again, the source said.
First timer Aris trounced Cajes in 2013 elections.
Apparently, LP’s attempt to woo non-LP in the reported coalition is to pitch support in a bid of Roxas, who is lagging behind in the recent surveys among the presidentiables.
Included in the LP’s persuasion is incumbent Rep. Arthur C. Yap, who is also reportedly an NPC.
The source said that wooing Yap into LP coalition fold is also an attempt to block former Carmen Mayor Conchita “Che” Toribio delos Reyes to become LP’s official bet for congress against Yap.
The source said that LP Bohol is somewhat worried when Delos Reyes becomes LP member since his would change the political landscape of the third district.
Delos Reyes is reportedly moving heaven and earth to become LP member even without the blessing of LP Bohol. She is now trying to court former Cavite governor Malikse, who is a close ally of P-Noy, to help her gain entry to LP, a trusted Delos Reyes lieutenant told Bohol News Today. (rvo)
