BIEN-UNIDO, Bohol – There’s probably no better way to celebrate the 34th birthday of this seaweed capital town than to solemnize some 58 mass wedding, Mayor Nino Rey F. Boniel said in his short remarks at the Sto. Nino church yesterday.
Fr. Rey Omamalin officiated the mass wedding. The relatives and barangay officials of the 15 barrios jam-packed at the said church to join and celebrate with the newly-weds.
Boniel stressed that wedding is a blessing for every family that must be solemnized. He said in an interview that he could have done the mass wedding since the municipal mayor is allowed by the law but he considered that it’s better for Catholic church to do it.
He said his administration tried to be compassionate and eased some requirements for marriage documents for those who wanted to get married after long years of living together and some with children already.
This town was created in 1981 by virtue of a law Batas Blg. 93 pushed by then Congressmen Bartolome Cabangbang and Cimafranca, according to the history of this town narrated by Kagawad Ramon Arcenal.
After the church activity, the mayor and the officials along Vice-Mayor Rene Borenaga and the Philippine National Police, the Bureau of Fire and Protection, the Department of Education and other agencies personnel gathered at the municipal hall grounds for the short program.
Following the program, Fr. Omamalin did the blessing of the new and old buildings of the municipality with the municipal employees and officials. Feeding courtesy of the DSWD was served of young ones and young once.
The activity was a prelude to this town’s annual fiesta on December 28-29, 2015, the mayor said. (rvo)
