BACLAYON, Bohol – Some concerned citizens in the barangays of this town have questioned the downgraded size of a road project connecting this town to adjacent Corella, where the Tarsier natural habitat is located. In Corella town, residents interviewed also raised the same query. A caller-listener of top-rated DyTR’s Cuentas Claras program yesterday expressed disgust over the downgraded road size on the part of the Corella town.
He told anchormen Atty. Salva Diputado and Edgar Tumanda that the road in Baclayon area is concreted six meters wide but it’s a different story on Corella side. The road width there (Corella side) is only five meters. In an ocular visit in Corella yesterday, workers in concreting project confirmed the width of the road is only 5 meters. But they did not know why.
The caller requested the anchormen to bring this issue to the attention to the governor during his weekly press conference today. It was learned that the road project contracted by a certain Supreme ABF Construction and Construction Supply Co. Inc. is worth PhP144,743,415.23. It is implemented by the Department of Paublic Works and Highways (DPWH) region 7 with 240-day duration that commenced on May 2, 2014.
The radio program was told that the said road project dubbed “Upgrading of Baclayon-Corella Road to Philippine Tarsier Sanctuary” is sub-contracted by local contractors —- Labb Construction and Herbert Malmis. Municipal councilor Rosendo Guingguing called up and explained the reason of the downgrading. He said that Corella mayor wanted that road be stretched up to Corella vicinity. This prompted the sub-contractor to make “change order” of the project that resulted to downscaling the width of the road on Corella section.
The caller also brought on air the issue of shouldering of the said road. He said that the earth materials used for shouldering are of “low quality” of limestone aside from the shoulders are narrow. Some Corella residents reportedly are wary that the road standard could be jeopardized with the downsizing of the road. (rvo)
