SAN MIGUEL, Bohol – Barangay folks led by Bebot Mendez Pinat will celebrate today the great Bayongan Dam Festival, on its second try, with fun, jubilation and big events in honor of their patron saint Sagrada Familia. Top of the attraction would be “Bamboo Raft Paddling,” the rafts are made of bamboo, is making a thrill to all. This race will be held in the afternoon today at the biggest irrigation dam in the region participated in by the barangays, Mendez-Pinat said.
Atty. Virgilio “Dodong” Mendez, the Boholano director of the National Bureau of Investigation, the son of this town, Congressman Aris Aumentado and other bigwigs are expected to grace the events, she said. Another attraction for the second time is kite flying. Last year spectators came in droves to witness this and other events such painting and photography competitions. Kite flying will take center stage at around three in the afternoon participated in by different puroks.
On this day, a Diana at around 4:30 ealry morning will take place and followed by a holy mass to be officiated by parish priest Fr. Del Duallo.
At around 11:30-12:00 at noon, another come-on is the “Let The Music Play” Drum and Lyre Show to be performed by Camanaga Elementary School.
Winners of the basketball, bamboo raft paddling and kite flying will be awarded along with Congressman Aris Aumentado, Gov. Edgar Chatto, Kag. Jun Golisino, Kag. Lito Bulaga and Liga ng mga Barangay president Vic Anuta.
Earlier, (May 23), a Grand Disco by the relatives and friends and residents took place as an opening salvo and prelude to the grand events today.
Bamboo raft paddling is taken care of by Kag. Maxi Dumanayos, chair, tourism committee ug agriculture; basketball championship by Kag. Celso Qquisora, chairman, sports development committee.
The nine-day prayer (novena) and procession in honor of the paton saint followed by fire works and culture and arts night. (rvo)
