TAGBILARAN CITY – Incumbent Provincial Board Member Gerardo “Gerry” Garcia, who is an engineer by profession, said yesterday that he “welcomes the move” if ever anointed as the official candidate of the ruling Liberal Party of Bohol led by Gov. Edgar Chatto to gun for congressman in 2nd district against incumbent Rep. Aris Aumentado. He said in an interview yesterday that he would be happy if ever that would happen but he did not give details.
Talks spread like wildfire recently came following unconfirmed reports that former Trinidad mayor and congressman Atty. Roberto “Ondoy” C. Cajes would no longer run for the district. He was defeated by Rep. Aumentado in 2013 elections.
This prompted Chatto’s camp to look for another one who may be “winnable” to be pitted against Rep. Aumentado, reports said. Garcia did not make his dream secret to run and become the next congressman in second district where his island hometown, Pres. Carlos P. Garcia, belongs.
He said that he may not have the resources for the traditional politics to operate during elections but his zeal to be of public service of the district prompted him to consider a run.
He said that if elected he would consider or try to change the situation of the district which he said is the poorest among the three congressional districts. He stressed that education and livelihood are the basic needs that may uplift the people’s lives. But these things cannot be done overnight, he said.
Meanwhile, at least three municipal vice-mayors are reportedly to throw their hats for mayor come May 9, 2016 general elections. These municipalities, whose municipal mayors are on their last terms in 2016, are Maribojoc, Loon and Calape.
Maribojoc Vice-Mayor Frustuso “Tusoy” Redulla is being groomed by Mayor Leoncio “Toloy” Evasco to succeed him. Redulla may be facing the presumptive LP bet incumbent councilor Gumersendo Arocha.
Loon Vice-Mayor Elvi Relampagos, brother Cong. Rene Lopez Relampagos, is to replace Mayor Peter Lloyd Lopez, brother of incumbent board member Cesar Tomas “Yul” Lopez, for mayor in 2016, report said.
Calape Vice-Mayor Nelson Yu will do the same as Mayor Junie Yu will only have to serve until next year when his term ends, report said. (rvo)
