BIEN-UNIDO, Bohol – The Department of Trade an Industry (DTI) has poured a total of Php620,000 for various equipment under the Shared Service Facility (SSF) for Bie-Unido Weavers Association (BUWSA) to produce more ‘bayong’ made of native raw materials in the near future.
DTI regional director Aster Caberte, Congressman Aris Aumentado, Board member Nino Rey Boniel and his wife, Mayor Gisel Boniel inaugurated the said facility last week with Fr. Omamalin blessing the equipment and the building located at the back of this town’s cultural/sports center.
The event was witnessed by BUWAS president Mrs. Boniel, mother of BM Boniel and members of the association and other officials and DTI personnel.
The facility includes the following: mechanical dryer for romblon materials worth Php470,000;edging sewing machine, Php28,000; elbow sewing machine, Php65,000; embroidery machine, Php 34,000; and digital weiging scale, Php12,000.
With SSF, the association hope for an inclusive growth of their members to produce more 500 products or “bayong” and earn some Php30,000 a month from their usual 200 bayongs with only Php7,000 earnings.
With this, DTI and the association and the municipality signed a Memorandum of Agreement detailing the responsibilities of both sides unde the usufruct, meaning when the machines are no longer used by the association they’ll be taken back by the DTI.
DTI has been helping the association in injecting the product development program and marketing.
The association is registered with the Department of Labor and Employment under cewrtificate no. 4138 on July 1, 2009 is now generating some 47 jobs and vows to generate more members in the future, its president said. (rvo)
