CORELLA, Bohol – Mayor Jose Nicanor Tocmo of this town disclosed that his town may earn more in revenue when its rich underwater sources start to be extracted to supply water needs to Panglao island, consist of the towns of Dauis and Panglao. The island is one of the places in the province having the costliest water rates due to scarcity of water supply.
This is compounded with the islanders’ clamor for more water supply. Its water supply extracted from underground sources appeared to be insufficient aside from the water here are beginning to be salty as a result of seawater seepage. Panglao town badly need water to quench the requirement of the growing population and tourists. Right now, Panglao relies on outsourcing of potable water supply which is very expensive, officials said.
Mayor Tocmo confirmed that a certain Balibago firm has made an arrangement in one of the sources in Corella to extract water. He said that the firm is almost done with pipeline laying, traversing some barangays in Tagbilaran City, then across the Borja bridge along the Tagbilaran-Dauis narrow strait.
He estimated that some Php300,000 of monthly income from the said water extraction would go to the municipal coffers. And this amount will help fund some other development projects his administration has planned.
Meanwhile, the administration of Mayor Nila Montero and Vice-Mayor Fuertes has been trying hard to put in place infrastructure through cisterns being constructed for water storage in some barangays.
They said they always welcome any water sources to supply the town apparently to ease the lack of the resource.
