TAGBILARAN CITY – Following the recent shooting incidents that resulted to the deaths of DyRD blocktimer Engr. Maurit Lim and several others in past months, this city is rocked by a grenade blast yesterday. A hand grenade exploded after unidentified perpetrator lobbed it into the house of the late city kagawad at past 2 AM yesterday. The blast hurt no one but the garage’s roof and two of their service vehicles — Starex and Nissan Safari — of the late city councilor Alexander “Aleckoy” Lim were hit by “shrapnels,” the report said. There was no report yet as to the amount of damages.
This prompted City Mayor John Geesnell Yap II yesterday to order police command headed by police chief George Vale to hasten the investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice. In his text to DyTR last night, Vale said that he cannot yet give details as police probers are still digging deeper into the bombing incident.
The blast was reported by “Alert” members who were up at that time. “Alert” is a group auxiliary citizens hired by city government to augment in the monitoring of peace and order in the city, the report said.
Police report hinted that the hand grenade was of K926 pineapple type, also referred to “fragmentation grenade,” which was used during the World War II. This type of hand grenade is only available among the men in uniform, the report said.
It was not immediately known if the grenade throwing had something to do with illegal drugs trade in the province as the police are still looking into it.
The late city councilor Lim used to extend legal services to the alleged drug pushers and drug lords for years.
Meanwhile, police report bared that one Jovane C. Orenia, a native of Danao, Bohol, a suspect of the murder of Maurito Lim, confessed to police that he resides at the city councilor’s residence.
Bit this could not be confirmed as the phone of the late kagawad did not respond only ringing when dialed last night.
Police have filed murder charges against the suspect (Orenia) of killing Maurito Lim. He (suspect) was cornered in a drug buy-bust operation conducted by provincial police operatives last Friday F. Rocha street in this city, where the city councilor’s residence is located, police said.
A caliber .45 pistol with numerous bullets; suspected “shabu” substances contained in plactic packs worth Php2,000 plus; and a mobile phone were confiscated from the suspect, police said.
The late Engr. Maurito “Chairman Mau” Lim was shot to death on Valentines day before he got off from his Isuzu Crosswind to anchor his radio program, “Chairman Mau On Board.” (rvo W/ Report from Ern Pahayahay)
