TAGBILARAN CITY – Pilmico is not only into livestock feeds supplier but also conscious of its corporate social responsibility by launching what it described as “Mahalin Pagkaing Atin” (MPA). It is a campaign to patronize locally produced food supply in realizing its theme “Promoting Sustainable Livelihood Thru Linkages.” The said campaign was introduced during the program attended by food chain stakeholders such as producers and tourism-related business establishments held at Jjs SeaFood Village in this city last night.
The said campaign is “ensuring food security,” marketing manager John Paul Pangilinan said in explaining the importance of the linkages with other sectors — producers and other establishments— of the community. Atty. Lucas Nunag, chair, Provincial Tourism Council, who represented the Bohol Association of Hotels, Resorts and Restaurants (BAHRR), said that “this is a welcome activity.”
Pangilinan explained the concept of MPA which is developed to save backyard by championing sustainable livelihood with “reframed discussion from feeds to food because food has universal appeal to a wide range of demographics.” “The honor and responsibility of upholding food security umbrella jointly belong to the farmer-producer, the retailer and the consumer,” Pangilinan stressed. MPA intends to create preference for homegrown produce and to elevate pride, place and product and uplift the collective dignity of communities, he said.
RSM representative Jefferson Canilang, who introduced the Bohol Producers Club, said that the company is “linking of food chain particularly backyard hog-raising. The company adhered to Henry Ford’s motto, “Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success,” Canilang said. The acivity is also attended by TV personality and chef Boy Logro of GMA, Mario Ochoco of the Provincial Veterinarian Office and related business operators. (rvo)
