TAGBILARAN CITY.Equally centuries-old churches like those in the
municipalities of Inabanga, Clarin or Tubigon and others hit by the
earthquake last year may not be as lucky as the other recipients of the
government rehab subsidy since they are not declared yet as National
Cultural Treasures (NCTs), National Museum said.
But the beneficiaries of the rehabilitation efforts are only for those
churches being declared as National Cultural Treasure (NCTs) or Important
Cultural Properties (ICPs) by the National Museum (NM), Charlemeine
Tantingco, Officer-in-charge of Bohol NM.
The churches declared as NCTs are Out Lady of Light in the town of Loon,
Maribojoc, St. Peter — Loboc, Holy Infant — Cortes, Dimiao, Alburquerque,
Loay, Baclayon and Dauis. Under the same declaration are the watch towers
of Punta Cruz, Maribojoc, Bohol; Balilihan town, Loay, Panglao and
Pamilacan island, off Baclayon town. The rehabilitation efforts of the quake-hit churches and watchtowers in
the province are making progress as far as category of damage is concerned.
Almost all the funds for the rehabilitation efforts are coming from the
National Commission for the Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Tourism
Industrial Economic Zone Authority (TIEZA).
Aside from the Bohol Capitol building, which has assured of PhP120 million
by next year, an additional fund of PhP500M are being allotted for the
rehabilitation of these churches, NM assistant director Angel Bautista said
during the Orientation Seminar for Bohol Cultural Heritage Officers in
Becoming National Museum Cultural Properties Deputy held here recently
where he was one of the resource speakers held at Panda Tea Garden
restaurant, this city.
As far as ?physical recovery of materials? is concerned, at three (3)
churches and one watchtower are 100% cleared of the debris as a result of
the earthquake. These are the provincial capitol building, old churches of
Cortes, Dimiao, Alburquerque towns, and Apanish watchtowers in Punta Cruz,
Maribojoc town and Panglao town, based on the status report of the National
Museum and other agencies concerned.
Old chuches of Loon town clearing had 60%, yet; and Maribojoc ? 70%. These
churches totally collapsed at the height of the tremor on October 15, 2013.
