PANGLAO, Bohol – This tourist island famous of its natural resources in white sand beaches and dive sites is now being piloted as the tourism senior high school to prepare the in-coming senior secondary students of Lourdes National High School to complete secondary course under K+12 enhanced education program with ready-to-work proficiency.
Stakeholders composed of the local government unit headed by Mayor Leonila P. Montero, provincial government led by Gov. Edgar Chatto, private and non-government organizations, the academe and the Department of Education headed by schools division superintendent Dr. Wilfreda Bongalos and tourism industry players’ representatives gathered here yesterday in tourism senior high school summit held at the posh South Palms Resort in this town.
It is dubbed “Turo-Turismo” for tourism senior high school.
Among the hot topics being pursued during the summit include the Curriculum Contextualization with inputs of tourism industry in Bohol, tourism curriculum and curriculum policy process; and Immersion Policy with inputs on the updates on the tourism policies and regulations, on-the-job policies, issues and concerns and advise on immersion policies.
Mayor Montero welcomed the visitors and participants in the summit including DepEd mentors and officials from different divisions in the provinces of Cebu, Negros Oreintal and Siquijor aside from Bohol.
The summit had Gov. Chatto and Education Undersec. Rizalino Rivera as guests delivering an inspirational messages.
Also messages being heard by the summit participants include those from Asst. Sec. Lesus Lorenzo Mateo, Ms. Christine Bantug of Coalitios for Change-The Asia Foundation; Ms. Jojit Abot-Camelon, senior program officer, Australian embassy; Mr. Henry Grageda, senior program officer, The Asia Foundation; Ms. Marietta Gasatan, financial consultant, South Palms Resort; Ms. Lutgarda Puerta, chairperson tourism and hospitality management, Holy Name Unviersity; Mr. Roel Lodronio, K-12 technical assistant, DepEd; Mr. Gerry Guidaben was represented, Dept. Of Labor and Employment; Mr. Keven Galanida, K-12 technical assistant, DepEd; and Dr. Luz Jandayan, education program supervisor curriculum and learning management division, region VII.
The facilitators were Lope Hubac, Raquel Castillo, Gerardo Eusebio and Benedict Nisperos.
The gathering is made possible with the joint efforts and assistance of the DepEd, this town, Australian Aid thru The Asia Foundation and the provincial government of Bohol, Ms. Vera Villocido of the Asia Foundation.
Following the summit, a time capsule laying for the construction of tourism senior high school facility followed at Lourdes National High School grounds led by Chatto, Rivera, Bongalos assisted by school officials led by principal Maria Buenaventurada Socorin. (rvo)
