TUBIGON, Bohol – When will the construction of their new house start? This still puzzles the Lumapac family of barangay Cahayag of this town. Aniano and Gloria Lumapac said that Habitat Foundation promised to construct a house few months after the materials were delivered to their yard. They said that the fact Habitat has already delivered a G.I. trusses, sheets for roofing and aggregates they had high expectation for the construction to start. But it’s almost two years after the earthquake they see no construction.
In an ocular visit of Bohol News Today yesterday, the family still dwell on their semi-concrete house destroyed by the earthquake which struck this town on October 15, 2013. They said they’d rather stay put since they had no other place to go. Aside from this suffering, they’re also threatened by flash floods whenever there’s typhoon coming their way as their house is just a few meters from the river. The family recalled when typhoons hit the province at the end of the year 2014, their dwelling was flooded with an angry flash floods.
They’re scared that their ‘quake-hit house and belongings might wash out. But they were thankful nobody was hurt and that no property was badly affected, except their piece of land.
The family said that due to flash floods part of their piece of land has now become part of the river.
They were told by government authorities, said to be National Irrigation Administration (NIA) personnel, that flood control would be constructed. Months after that inspection of the river basin nothing has come out, they said.
The river serves as one of the sources of water for irrigation needs downstream. (rvo)
