TAGBILARAN CITY, Oct 27 ? *Polcie operatives apprehended yesterday (Oct. 27, 2014) two of the alleged members of notorious Salisi gang whose shoplifting modus operandi victimized two malls in this city, city plice chief PCInsp George Acol Vale said during the press conference at his office yesterday. Police identified the suspects as Jhun Loquillano Cañete, 43, married, a resident of Tigbacay, Minglanilla, Cebu and one Lloyd Valdez Berdon, 30, single and resident of Pinagbuhatan, Pasig City. The duo were presented to the media for query but both just kept mum and refused to answer questions from the media. Berdon was handcuffed on his back while Cañete was not while both were inside Vale?s office.
Vale said that Island City Mall (ICM) has filed three counts of theft and Bohol Qulaity one count of theft against the suspects. A certain Maria Nemar Sumalinog, 47, married, resident of Upper dela Paz, Cortes, Bohol and employee of the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) here, showed to the press conference and identified the suspects are the ones who snatched her signature shoulder bag, Loius Vuitton, worth PhP82,000 given to her by a friend she did not identify. Another victim, a British nationality, identified as one Julian Harley Muir-Mardinge, 48, single residing at seaside J. Operiano Street, barangay Bingag, Dauis town, alleged that the suspect Cañete carted away his bag he left at the table inside the Prawn Farm restaurant at ICM. The foreigner ate his lunch at around 12:00 (Oct. 27) at the said restaurant when the incident took place, police said. The police report said that security guards Angelo Niluag, 40, of Dao, this city, and Roland Macalam, 32, and waiter Renante D. Acedes, 22, chased the suspect and apprehended him (Cañete) and recovered the stolen bag that contained visa card and cash worth PhP10,000, police report showed.
Berdon and others are facing theft suit filed before the Office of the City Prosecutor with NPS Docket No. VII-14-INV-141-0596, police said. Aside from Berdon, Sheryl Valdemoro, of legal age, resident of Pinagbuhatan, Pasig City; Maui Cruz of legal age; Angel dela Cruz, Eken Bautista, Lily Valdemoro; Bebe Imperial; Kenner Cruz; Mary Grace, all fo legal ages and residents of the same address (Pasig); and one Michael Villacorta of legal age, and resident of Carmen town, Bohol, also face the same theft charges, the same charge sheet, signed by Vale and Fara Ricarda
