TAGBILARAN CITY – Tropical storm “Seniang” that dumped continuous heavy downpour and gusty wind to mostly southern part of Bohol and this capital city on Monday has virtually turned at least three towns into water world. There was no casualty but only damages is reported as of this writing last night. Some areas of this city were under water at the height of the storm’s onslaught past midnight on Monday after it made landfall in Anda town, hundred kilometers east here.
The house of Eustacia Caunsag, 84, who resides in her house along with three others, was cut in half when rush of water hit their house at low lying barangay Bool in this city. They were evacuated at higher ground past midnight and safe, her relative said Barangay Manga chairperson Leda Saco told the Bohol News Today in exclusive interview yesterday that the detour bridge between her barangay and La Paz, Cortes town became impassable for hours due to overflowed water of waist deep and rushing.
The motorcycle of Christian Renegado, 21 of Cortes town tried to cross it on his way to this city but failed. His CB 110 Honda motorcycle was washed out to mangrove areas near the river. He said in interview he is safe after he left his motorcycle carried by current. In Loboc town, the tourist river cruising capital of Bohol, it’s old church ruined by earthquake last year and municipal building and other private were under water, reports said. Hundreds of people were still in their respective houses under water in at least five barangays. Its river cruising activities grind to a halt as the river banks overflowed, said a resident.
In barangay Jimilian, Loboc town, vast of rice paddies recently planted has virtually transformed into a big lake as can be seen from the road. Children and old ones were already rescued while others remained in their homes under water that reach the ceiling of their houses.
This writer tried to visit Loboc town via Loay town but failed since. The interior national highway on the way Chocolate Hills along barangay Agape, Loay town remained impassable by all kinds of vehicles until noon yesterday.
Barangay chairman Noel Imboy said in interview that the road is closed to all vehicles until the water that overflowed from Loboc river subsides. He said he already distributed some relief goods to his constituents who cannot cross the highway under water of about waist deep.
In Cortes town, about ten kilometers north of this city, some residents near the river bank of Abatan river, one of three biggest river in Bohol, were evacuated to safer ground.
But for the family of Sergio Coquilla, 60, everything in his possession including his carpentry tools and furniture shop near the river were lost. But his wife, Pacifica Coquilla, 57, said that she’s grateful nobody from his family was hurt as they fled to higher and safer ground at past midnight on Mondaysince the water swelled right away due to continuous and heavy downpour.
