TAGBILARAN CITY – Contingent of barangay Ubujan harvested most of the minor and major awards. Ubujan strongly defended the title since it won last year’s second Saulog celebration as it garnered the grand prize to the tune of Php150,000 in the Saulog street dancing competition yesterday held at Pres. Carlos P. Garcia sports complex. Barangay Tiptip got the first runner-up and San Isidro, 2nd runner-up with Php100,000 and Php80,000 plus trophy, respectively.
Barangay Cogon placed 3rd runner-up with Php50,000 plus trophy and barangayDao, 4th runner-up with Php30,000 and a trophy. Ubujan also reaped most of the minor awards —- “Best in Production Design,” “Best in Costume,” “Best in Musicality,” “Best in Performance” and “Best in Choregraphy.” Barangay Tiptip also was adjudged as “Best in Street Dancing” contingent.
Other contingents include barangays Poblacion I, Bool, Dampas, Cabawan, Poblacion III, Mansasa, Booy, Manga, Poblacion II and Taloto. Festival King and Queen of barangay Dao got the grand prize. King and queen of barangay San Isidro placed first runner-up and barangay Poblacion III, second runner-up.
Mayor John Geesnell Yap II and his better-half Jane Cajes-Yap, chairperson of the streets dance committee, led city and barangay officials in welcoming visitors as well as appreciating all those who support in some ways to make the 3rd Saulog festival successful. Other provincial officials led by Gov. Edgar Chatto and Rep. Rene Relampagos and city officials graced the event.
The street dance board of judges is headed by Chair of the Sandugo Street Dancing Committee Carmen Gatal; along with her members: university professor and artistic director Victor Cuenco; Holy Name University professor Steve Carosos, International Dance Sports Federation Member and production staff of “Pasigarbo sa Sugbu” Maria Lester Ybañez; former Sinulog judge Catherine Vestil; and school professor Merlino Acebes of Jagna town.
