TAGBILARAN CITY.The city council replacement row has become a full blown word war between Liberal Party (LP) stalwarts in this city. The recent deaths of city councilors Atty. Alexander Aleckoy Lim and Atty. Oscar Glovasa have created vacuum at the Sangguniang Panlungsod. There’s no law nor an LP internal policy giving preference to a family member to succeed a deceased member, a published statement signed by incumbent city Vice-Mayor Jose Antonio Veloso, who is the city LP acting chairman, said. Citing Local Government Code of 1991, Veloso said that the choice of or endorsing Atty. Agustinos Dodong Gonzaga, LP’scity mayoralty bet, to replace Atty. Aleckoy Lim is based on party discussion and consultation during the LP city executive council. Thus, in this party consultative process, the local party decision was arrived at taking into paramount consideration, party unity, not vested interest of individuals, the statement said. It also deliberated the letter of the Lim family signifying the interest of his son, Alexis Franz Kit T. Lim to replace his father, the late Atty. Aleckoy Lim. And Veloso said that LP empathize with the feelings, emotions and sentiments of the Lim family, saying that the party will uphold Lim’s advocacies and principles for the welfare of the city and Tagbilaranons.
Veloso said that Gonzaga’s endorsement to replace Lim is supported by all
barangay chairmen/co-chairmen of the city. And the said endorsement was
forwarded to Rep. Rene RElampagos, district party chairman and to Gov.
Edgar Chatto, the provincial chair of the party and elevated to LP National
In its published statement earlier, the bereaved Lim’s family has voiced
their feelings, sentiments, and emotions over the decision of city
Liberal Partys move to officially endorse Gonzaga to replace former city
councilor Atty. Aleckoy H. Lim.
The Lim family said These people burned relations and betrayed
time-honored traditions. Even for the courtesy of reverence to the memory
of the late councilor Aleckoy Lim, our family’s plea was left unheard, left
without consideration, as though thrown into the waste bin, (of all people)
by the Liberal Party Directorate chaired by City Vice-Mayor Jose Antonio
Toto Veloso, who during the wake, vowed to preserve the memory of my

The statement said that the party’s tradition and its internal policy have
upheld the party’s practice of giving preference to the family’s wish and
choice of who would replace the vacated seat. But the party’s move showed
otherwise as it endorsed Gonzaga to replace Aleckoy Lim.
The late councilor Atty. Aleckoy Lim was one of only two LP bets, along
with Vice-Mayor Veloso, who survived in the last elections. The other is
incumbent councilor Betty Torralba, wife of then city mayor Jose V.
